EMAIL | ARRIVAL IN SIENA - FLIGHT - ALPS - TIRE'T
Friday, June 20, 2003 10:40 AM

Well, where do I even begin? the flights were actually fine...the one from RDU to London was a but bumpy the whole way, not just on the two parts that I hate most. The woman next to me said two words the whole time. I could tell that she wouldn't have appreciated my clutching her arm during take-off, so I only did it during descent. The second one was much better. You must sit on the right side of the plane...seat 22a was what I had. This way, if it is nice out you will get to see the alps, which really were amazing. You felt as if you could touch them out of the plane window-we were that close. An older couple was sitting next to me; they were very nice and told me that they took this flight all of the time; evidently, this was the best view they had ever seen of the mountains. It truly was breathtaking. I have a pic too.

I'm just getting to know Siena. Have not met anyone from program yet...people getting in today mostly. I am VERY glad that I came a day before (four others came before me!) so that I would't be dragging for the start of things.

I am having to walk everywhere until I get acquainted with the bus system (which may take a day or two). The apartment is in a residential area, and the nearest phones are a bit of a walk. Plus, you have to buy a special card just to use the pay phone, and I only purchased one of them about an hour again. I got here just in time yesterday to walk around a bit, go to the market and buy very few items (proscuitto, bread, brie, apples, yogurt, and water) I walked home after this and fell asleep in my clothes! I have never been so tired. My shoulders actually hurt to the touch!

This place is great though...the train ride in was really neat (neat used in the most expressive way...)
