INSTANT MESSAGE | FIRST CLASS - AND
MORE TIRE'T
Monday, June 23, 2003 7:15 AM
abstrait: So where are your classes? I thought they
were right near the center of town?
Bonies: today is kind of a down
day for me...i have not been able to sleep very well at all, and
I am finally feeling it...very tiret. Classes are right near the
campo, which is the center of Siena
abstrait: before you left, you made it seem like everything
is a short walking distance...seems much more
Bonies: we are a forty minute
walk or ten minute bus ride from city... to the apartment...everything
else is pretty close. i have done it two times already, the bus
that is.
abstrait: but the Internet cafe is right near the classes,
right?
Bonies: I walked for three hours
yesterday by myself...all around Siena streets, in other words,
I was lost!! yes, cafe is right near class, which is why I came
over here right after class
abstrait: I thought you were with the excursion? Didn't you
have that going on?
Bonies: yeah..we got back at
about 4:00...
abstrait: lordy.... so have you got to know any of the people
yet?
Bonies: I walked around a bit...got
pizza, read, and called you. yeah...they (the other student/teachers)
are really great. i was thinking last night about how much you will
like them....lots of different personalities
Bonies: i am a bit over my head
in terms of my lack of background in medieval religion, culture,
etc
abstrait: comparatively?
Bonies: I get along with everyone...you
get close pretty quickly....many intelligent people here. i bring
some unique things to the groups though, as far as I know. And Ron
and Bill make everyone feel at ease
abstrait: what is the language barrier like?
Bonies: We talked about how
there were over 150 people who applied and, even if we have doubts,
we all belong here. Regarding the language, it gets better the more
that you are here. you learn what you need to deal with people...it
is a means of necessity and I am getting better. i will be able
to tell you several phrases that will really help. The people are
very understanding...will help you to struggle through the Italian.
Of course, pointing helps a lot too
Bonies: The food here is incredible....you
will not believe it.... everything is better--even cheap pizza.
I am really into this lifestyle
abstrait: anyone speak English? Do you only hear Italian
around...or is there any English?
Bonies: ok...yeah, but not very
much...here in Siena it is not as common for people to speak english...more
common in Florence and Rome. You hear English about two -three times
a day if you are walking around..more if you are in the campo--which
is more touristy
Bonies: The people here are
so elegant... women are beautiful, fashionable, in great shape
abstrait: So you could live there? I mean, you would want
to literally move there with jowls? Meaning MEN are beautiful, fashionable
and in great shape!!
Bonies: it is such a cultural
difference..no, the men actually aren't that good looking..it is
really the women who are striking. you wil definitely see what I
mean
abstrait: heint
Bonies: anyway...it points to
a healthier lifestyle- food is precious and chosen with care...
natural ingredients, and exercise is frequent. I feel very healthy,
despite the fact that I am eating rich food
abstrait: any water nearby?
Bonies: no. really..water is
about 60-90 minutes away...and we will have to go to the coast eventually
during our trip. I will try to find out where on the coast is best
to visit....hopefully from people who have been here with experience
abstrait: so could you live there full time?
Bonies: countryside is unbelievable...
Full time? I don't know..but I really love it here right now...i'm
sure I will learn of inconveniences and problems as we go...you
know how that is
abstrait: yep...Is the apartment hot as hell? any windows?
Bonies: no...it really isn't
hot
abstrait: a few... you have a fan...overhead?
Bonies: I have the biggest window
in the world that leads to a terrace..i ate pizza and read there
last night... no fan...but we don't need one yet...we may later
on. It really isn't humid here. In the shade, it is very cool and
there is almost always a breeze. I wish we could stay somewhere
better later on. This place has a character of its own though..and
the shower has the most amazing water pressure...very key!
Here, the conversation takes
a turn for the worse as Audrey is fading fast and I am flapping
jowls....
abstrait: Not that it matters that much but I had pizza last
night too...with ole bill....we are moving the BMW to his apt. I
tried to charge battery last night...it's either TOO dead..or the
charger isnt working
Bonies: lordy...well that's
good... how is the boat going?
abstrait: boat? What boat?
abstrait: we just didnt think any of this through; it's almost
crazy to put it in the water for two weeks than leave for three
Bonies: well...let's talk about
it later, if you don't mind
abstrait: yep..agreed. Ask your instructor if he wants to
buy a Beneteau....
abstrait: I wish you would bring your journal and send it
daily...
Bonies: I will later...I am
getting about three hours of sleep a night for past several nights.
I will have more energy when I get some real sleep
abstrait: hope you are writing some in the computer from
the notebook...hope you are writing a daily journal...hope I get
more sleep too....hope Gray does not bring Rattus #3 up on deck....
abstrait: Now I am sitting here re-reading this IM. I was
thinking of putting something online... and this WONT be it! heh....
It sounds like we are on the same page, just different books. Rule
#1: Dont do IM at 7am....
Bonies: Yeah, but what's my
excuse? It's about 1:30pm.... time for siesta....
