LIFE AND PIGEONS

Reading, reading, reading! I am having too
much fun with friends and vino and need to get back to Dante!
Class number two went very well, as it was more like what a normal
class will be. I wandered around a bit after class and ate lunch
on the Duomo steps (a piece of bread and a peach!) sharing my crumbs
with the pigeons ambling about. It sounds funny, but at the moment
that I was pushing breadcrumbs with my foot towards the tentative
pigeons, I felt a sense of belonging-that my crumbs would feed something
else with my minimal effort of inching the crumbs towards them.
That is what life is so much more about over here than in the US-having
an awareness of how your existence impacts others-whether it be
the number of grocery bags that you carry out of the grocery store
(they charge for them here!) or carrying your trash to the communal
trash dumpsters rather than having an individual outside garbage
bin. I am embracing it fully and feel very at home here.
